Selling scrap and broken gold
Short answer: yes, it is worth bringing in. Broken chains, single earrings, bent rings and damaged pieces still contain gold. We value scrap gold on its purity and weight, so condition doesn't matter.
What counts as scrap gold
- Broken or knotted chains and bracelets
- Single earrings and lost-back studs
- Bent, cracked or worn-through rings
- Old pieces you will never wear or repair
- Gold offcuts and filings
Sorting it before you come in
You don't have to sort anything. If you want to, keep pieces with stamps (375, 585, 750, 916) together, and anything with stones apart. Our guide to gold stamps shows what each number means.
Plated and filled jewellery
Pieces marked GP, GF, RGP, HGE or "rolled gold" have only a thin layer of gold over another metal and usually carry little gold value. If you're not sure, bring them anyway and we'll tell you what we see.
Stones in scrap pieces
Small diamonds and gemstones in broken pieces may add value. We check them as part of the assessment.
Common questions
Is a single broken earring worth bringing in?
It can be. Small pieces add up, and we weigh everything together. Bring all your scrap at once.
Do I need to remove the stones?
No. Leave them in. We check stones as part of the assessment.
What if I don't know whether it's real gold?
Bring it in. We test unmarked gold and explain the result.
