Selling a diamond or diamond ring
Start with an email. Send photos and any details you have to info@perthjewellerybuyers.com.au. We will look at what you send and let you know whether it is something we are interested in, before you make the trip.
What to put in your email
- Photos: the whole piece from the front and side, and a close-up of the stone. Daylight works best.
- Any paperwork: a grading certificate (such as GIA), a valuation, or the original receipt. A photo of it is fine.
- What you know about the stone: size (carat), shape, and whether it is natural or lab-grown, if known.
- The setting: gold or platinum, and the stamp if you can see one.
- Your name and phone number.
Not sure about some of it? Send what you have. You don't need to know the terminology.
What happens next
- We look at your photos and details.
- We reply to let you know whether we are interested, and if so, invite you in.
- When you bring it in, we examine the stone and setting and explain what we see.
- If we make an offer and you accept, we record your ID as the law requires and pay by bank transfer.
An email reply is not an offer. We can only make an offer once we have seen the piece in person.
Why resale is usually less than the retail price
The price paid in a shop includes the retailer's costs and margin. A valuation for insurance is usually a replacement cost, not a resale price. When a diamond is sold second-hand, the offer reflects what the stone and the metal are worth on the trade market, which is normally well below both. We explain how we arrive at any offer.
Lab-grown diamonds
Please tell us if a stone is lab-grown. It makes a large difference to resale value, so it helps us give you a straight answer early.
Common questions
Can I just bring my diamond in without emailing first?
For diamonds we ask you to email photos and details first. That way you know whether we are interested before you make the trip.
Do you buy loose diamonds?
Loose diamonds can be considered. Email photos and any certificate first and we will let you know.
Does a certificate matter?
It helps. A grading certificate or valuation tells us more about the stone. If you have one, include a photo in your email.
